About the Course

This course, "Alzheimer's Awareness with Law Enforcement," provides essential training for officers on understanding and interacting with individuals affected by Alzheimer's and other dementias. Students will learn to recognize symptoms and behaviors, utilize effective communication tactics (T.A.L.K.), and address dangerous situations like wandering, shoplifting, domestic violence, and firearms. The course also emphasizes officer wellness and proactive community engagement.

Tim Christol

Retired Chief Tim Christol served four decades as a law enforcement professional, with nine years as a Chief of Police, and is presently the owner of Edgeway Strategies, a training and consulting service targeting public safety and corporate developmental strategies. He taught 12 years at the college level and continues to present at national and international conferences. Tim has published over a dozen articles in professional publications and is still a regular contributor. He served as an advisor to the National Institute of Justice and presented research at the Law Enforcement Technology Symposium in London, England. He served on the Advisory Board for the Aegis Law Enforcement Foundation, on the Executive Board of the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police, as Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce, and Chair of the Board of Directors for the Lift Center, a community services foundation. He graduated from the police academy in 1979, gained his advanced certificate through the North Carolina Justice Training and Standards Commission and was awarded the Executive Leadership Certificate from the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police. He has a bachelor's degree in business, a master's degree in criminal justice administration and is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy.
