About the Course
This course provides essential training in identifying verbal and nonverbal cues of deceit. It covers establishing baselines, recognizing inconsistencies in statements and actions, and understanding micro-gestures and body language. Participants will learn to effectively interpret communication, overcome mental defenses, and enhance rapport-building skills for improved information gathering in various professional contexts.

Dr. Steven A. Rhoads
Dr. Steven A. Rhoads holds a Ph.D. in Behavioral Science and boasts 50 years of law enforcement experience, including 8 years as a Chief of Police, and 45 years of teaching experience. He is also a three-time Medal of Valor recipient.
Dr. Rhoads began his research in Subconscious Communication® in 1978. He started teaching courses for the DEA, a relationship that lasted until 2000. He has since refined his programs, which focus on interpersonal relations, improved communication, and detecting deception and danger. While primarily serving criminal justice professionals, he has successfully applied his material in the corporate world, aiming to broaden his client base and enhance communication skills for increased productivity. He recently partnered with www.catlet.org to reach more law enforcement agencies.
His career as Chief of Police includes leadership roles in three different departments. From 1988 to 1993, he served as Police Chief in Calumet City, IL, where he was hired as the first outside police administrator to implement significant organizational changes. Prior to that, from 1984 to 1988, he was the first full-time Police Chief for the East Hazel Crest Police Department, where he established a full-time department, hired and trained personnel, and oversaw all administrative duties. His earliest role as Chief of Police was in Parachute, CO, from 1981 to 1984, where he was tasked with creating the community's first police department and municipal court, as well as assisting in establishing a radio dispatch center during a period of rapid growth. He is proud of the community-oriented police strategy he developed in Parachute.
Dr. Rhoads earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Behavioral Sciences from Union Institute & University between 1999 and 2002. He also received a Certificate in Criminal Justice/Police Science from the FBI National Academy - 147th Session in 1986, where he was elected Section Leader by his peers.
