In this course, Dr. Heather McElroy covers the essential aspects of psychological fitness for duty evaluations in public safety. She will discuss the qualifications of examiners, legal and ethical standards, and the evaluation process. She will also differentiate fitness for duty evaluations from other assessments and emphasizes proper procedures, informed consent, and reporting. The course also discusses reducing fitness for duty issues through pre-employment screening and wellness initiatives.

Dr. Heather McElroy

Dr. Heather McElroy is a board-certified police and public safety psychologist with extensive experience in conducting fitness for duty evaluations. She has dedicated her career to this specialized field, and her expertise is recognized by her service on the board of the American Board of Police and Public Safety Psychology. Dr. McElroy has also contributed to writing guidelines for the International Association of Chiefs of Police and is a certified police officer with experience as a hostage negotiator. Her passion and daily work revolve around supporting and evaluating public safety personnel.
