About the Course
Childhood sexual abuse is among the most damaging experiences an individual can endure. While such cases are regrettably common within the scope of law enforcement work, they are often complex, difficult to investigate, and challenging to prosecute.
A clear understanding of the type of abuse involved, offender motivation, and offender mindset can significantly strengthen investigative efforts. This presentation addresses common misconceptions, including the frequent misuse of the term pedophile, and provides accurate definitions. It examines the similarities and differences between pedophilic sex offenders and opportunistic sex offenders, emphasizing the investigative relevance of each typology.

Dr. Julianna Davis
Dr. Julianna Davis is a seasoned mental health professional with a Doctorate of Education in Community Counseling: Traumatology from Liberty University. With over a decade of experience working across emergency response, behavioral health, and organizational leadership, she brings a unique perspective to the intersection of clinical insight and frontline realities.
Dr. Davis is certified in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), Psychological First Aid (PFA), ALLEAPS Peer Support, and AFC Peer Support. Several years ago she partnered with the Albertville Police and Fire Departments to create North Alabama’s first comprehensive wellness plan for first responders. The program, now part of a larger non-profit organization, has now spread across North Alabama and her passion is sharing that journey with others. She has served as Executive Director of a community provider agency, overseeing group homes for adults with intellectual disabilities; and as a psychologist’s assistant conducting standardized testing and client support. She has also volunteered with Covenant Rescue Group in the fight against human trafficking and published field-based research on childhood sexual abuse and the personality of offenders. She offers consultations with law enforcement in sexual abuse cases and volunteers to assist the victims and their families.
A passionate educator and speaker, Dr. Davis is committed to promoting evidence-based approaches to first responder wellness. She currently consults with agencies throughout Alabama to implement trauma-informed practices that save lives and strengthen teams.
