Diversity in the Communication Center

This course explores the critical importance of diversity within emergency services communications centers. It addresses the national shortage of telecommunicators and the need for agencies to adapt their recruitment and retention strategies by embracing diversity. The course covers key concepts such as power dynamics, cognitive conflict, superordinate goals, dimensions of diversity, cultural collisions, stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination, and the development of effective teamwork skills. It emphasizes the significance of open dialogue, collaboration, and inclusive practices to foster a positive and productive work environment.
