SRO and 4th Amendment

This course is designed for law enforcement officers working in a school environment.

The course covers how the Fourth Amendment applies to School Resource Officers

(SROs) and their interactions with students. Anthony Bandiero will discuss the legal

basis for SRO searches, including important court cases and the development of the

TLO standard; best practices for SROs conducting searches, including working with

school administrators and using non-coercive tactics; special considerations for

searches involving juveniles, including Miranda rights and consent searches; and

suspicionless searches, such as the use of metal detectors and canine sniffs.
